Naveen K. Mittal, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, serving as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. He holds the Greehey Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Pediatric Gastroenterology and acts as Medical Director of the University Health System Liver Transplant Program in San Antonio. Mittal's academic background includes a BM BS in Medicine from the University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi in 1983, and an MD from Maulana Azad Medical College and Associated Hospitals, University of Delhi in 1988. His extensive clinical training encompasses an internship in Pediatrics and Other Medical & Surgical Specialties at University College of Medical Sciences and Safdarjung Hospital in 1984, residencies in Pediatrics and Surgery at Safdarjung Hospital in 1985, additional Pediatrics residencies at South Cleveland Hospital in 1990 and Hahnemann University Hospital in 1993, a Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Bristol Royal Hospital in 1991, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at The University of Chicago Hospital in 1996.
Mittal joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2009 as Professor/Clinical and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, advancing to Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at University Health System in 2013. He assumed the Greehey Endowed Chair and Medical Director roles in 2014. His research focuses on pediatric liver diseases, including Hepatitis B and C, and Parenteral Nutrition-Associated Liver Disease (PNALD), serving as Co-Principal Investigator on Gilead Sciences grants studying these conditions in children and adolescents from 2014 to 2018 and ongoing.
