Associate Professor Nasrin Aghamohammadi serves as Associate Professor of Sustainable Engineering in the School of Design and the Built Environment, Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering from the University of Malaya and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her academic career includes a position as Research Assistant in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Malaya from 2006 to 2010, focusing on biomass burning in Southeast Asia and its impacts. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Malaya and an Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering there. At Curtin, she is affiliated with the Curtin University Sustainability Policy (CUSP) Institute and contributes to research on sustainable cities and society.
Her research specializations encompass environmental engineering, sustainable development, urban overheating, pathways to net-zero precincts, urban heat islands, climate policy, and energy. With over 118 publications, her work has garnered more than 6,500 citations. Key publications include 'The SARS, MERS and novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemics, the newest and biggest global health threats: what lessons have we learned?' (2020), 'Urban heat mitigation by green and blue infrastructure: Drivers, effectiveness, and future needs' (2024), 'The impact of COVID-19 on globalization' (2020), 'Application of TOPSIS and VIKOR improved versions in a multi criteria decision analysis to develop an optimized municipal solid waste management model' (2016), and 'Impact of regional haze towards air quality in Malaysia: A review' (2018). She has contributed to books such as 'Urban Overheating: Heat Mitigation and the Impact on Health' (2022). Professionally, she serves as Associate Editor for Indoor and Built Environment (Sage, since 2022), former Chair of the Built Environment and Transport Theme at the Institution of Chemical Engineers (2020-2022), Management Committee Member at Sustainable Energy Now (2023-2024), and Course Facilitator for Climate Change Simulation at the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (2021-2023). She has delivered keynote speeches, such as at the Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability conference, and participated in public events like Future Science Talks.
