About Nada

Dr. Nada Eltaiba serves as an Adjunct Research Fellow at the School of Allied Health, University of Western Australia (UWA), following her role as Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Social Policy at the same institution. She currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the Social Work Department, School of Applied Humanities and Social Sciences, at German Jordanian University. Eltaiba's academic journey includes a PhD in Social Work and Social Policy from UWA (2007), with a thesis on "Perceptions of mental health problems in Islam: A textual and experiential analysis"; a Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work from the University of Melbourne (2018); a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching from UWA (2022); a Master of Counselling and Guidance from the University of Jordan (1990); and a BA in Social Work from the University of Tripoli (1983). With extensive experience as a social work practitioner in health and community settings across Australia, Qatar, and Jordan, she has taught in social work programs at UWA, Curtin University, Al-Balqa Applied University, Qatar University, and Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.

Eltaiba's research specializations encompass mental health, cross-cultural social work practice, religion and mental health, refugee mental health, ethics, teaching social work, and narrative therapy. Her notable publications include "Fostering Mental Health Awareness Through Social Media: Reflective Exploration of Innovative Assessment" (2024, with M. Ghanem and S. Alhussien), "Religion, spirituality, and responding to guilt among Muslim women" (2024), "Why Don’t We Self-Reflect on the Small Encounters? A Question Posed by a Japanese Student during a Multicultural Field Placement" (2024, with S. Yamashita), "Students’ view on enhancing field education" (2025), "Bringing Experience into the Classroom: A Shared Journey" (2020), and "Reflections on Recovery in Mental Health: Perspectives From a Muslim Culture" (2015). She has received awards such as the Fay Gale Fellowship (2010) and the UWA Research Development Award (2010). Eltaiba has secured research grants, including from the World Innovation Summit for Health and WEYAK Mental Health Association (2017-present, $50,000). Her contributions extend to editorial roles, including guest editor for the "Islam and social work" special issue of International Social Work (2013-2015) and editorial board member of Advances in Social Work and Welfare Education (2020-present). She supervises PhD students and is passionate about fostering competent social work practitioners through collaborative teaching.
