Myfanwy Graham is an Associate Lecturer in the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She holds the position of Research Associate with the Australian Centre for Cannabinoid Clinical and Research Excellence (ACRE), a key research group dedicated to cannabinoid clinical and research excellence. As a registered pharmacist and Principal Specialist Medicines Optimisation at Hunter New England Local Health District, Graham specializes in medicines optimization and has extensive experience in clinical pharmacology. Her employment with the University of Newcastle dates back to 2009, and she earned a Master of Pharmacy from the institution. Graham's research portfolio emphasizes cannabis medicines, pharmacology, knowledge translation, drug interactions, and clinical decision-making for medical cannabis products.
Graham was honored with the Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship in 2021, becoming the first Australian in her field to receive this prestigious award. She conducted her Fulbright research at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, partnering with Professor Rosalie Pacula on a binational study examining medicinal cannabis policies, patient outcomes, clinical practices, and regulatory differences between Australia and the United States. The project aimed to forge global research collaborations, translate findings into clinical settings, and drive policy improvements for better patient care. Her contributions extend to the NSW Cannabis Medicines Advisory Service, where she co-authored key reports including preliminary survey results on enquirer perceptions and patient outcomes (2021) and a retrospective enquiry analysis (2024). Notable peer-reviewed publications include 'Cannabidiol drug interaction considerations for prescribers and patients' (2023), 'Opioid-sparing effect of cannabinoids for analgesia' in Neuropsychopharmacology (2022), 'Over the counter low-dose cannabidiol: A viewpoint from the ACRE group' in Journal of Psychopharmacology (2021), 'From growers to patients: Multi-stakeholder views on the use of, and attitudes toward, medical cannabis in New Zealand' (2022), 'Understanding medical cannabis use internationally: Why prescribers need more support' in Addiction (2025), and 'The safety and efficacy of cannabinoids for the treatment of mental health conditions: a systematic review' (2025). Graham's work has advanced evidence-based practices in cannabinoid therapeutics and supported prescribers through guidance resources.
