Muhammad Nadeem served as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in the Department of Accountancy and Finance at the University of Otago's Otago Business School from 2018 to 2022. In these roles, he acted as Deputy Associate Dean of Postgraduate Programs and Director of the Master of Professional Accounting degree. Prior to Otago, he held a Lecturer position in Accounting at Auckland University of Technology from 2017 to 2018.
His research specializations encompass corporate governance, corporate social and environmental responsibility, financial and non-financial disclosures, with a particular focus on climate change reporting. Nadeem has published in leading outlets such as Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Corporate Finance, Accounting & Finance, British Accounting Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal. Key publications include "Financially material sustainability reporting and firm performance in New Zealand" (2023, with Mariela Carvajal), "Corporate social responsibility decoupling: a systematic literature review and future research agenda" (2023, with Shabana Talpur and Helen Roberts), "Board co-option and corporate environmental orientation" (2024, with Ammar Ali Gull and Hoa Luong), "Economic policy uncertainty, oil price shocks and corporate investment" (2021), "CEO ability, career concerns, firms' lifecycle and investments in intellectual capital" (2021), and "Do companies’ green credentials enhance trade credit provisions? Global evidence" (2025, with Rashid Zaman et al.). He has received multiple Best Paper Awards from the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) and the Corporate Governance Special Interest Group of the European Academy of Management (EURAM), as well as the Best Emerging Researcher award. As Associate Editor of Meditari Accountancy Research and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Intellectual Capital, Nadeem reviews for top journals. He has delivered keynote addresses and research seminars at international venues, organized conferences, and contributed to standard-setting bodies including New Zealand's External Reporting Board (XRB).
