Dr. Mizan Ahmed is a Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering in the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. He completed his PhD in structural engineering from Victoria University, Australia. Prior to joining Curtin University, Ahmed served as a Lecturer at the University of Wollongong and as a Research Fellow. His academic and research career focuses on advancing the performance and design of structural elements through integrated experimental testing and advanced numerical simulations, particularly in challenging loading conditions and material innovations.
Mizan Ahmed's research specializations include steel structures, concrete structures, composite structures, computational mechanics, steel-concrete composite structures, thin-walled structures, high-strength steel and concrete, and finite element analysis. His Google Scholar profile records 2,599 citations, underscoring his influence in structural engineering. Prominent publications comprise 'Flexural performance of concrete-filled steel tubular beams with partial replacement of fine aggregates with sawdust' (2025), 'Experimental and numerical investigations of precast circular reinforced concrete slender columns with intermediate connection' (2023), 'Tests and finite element modeling of concrete beams reinforced with glass fiber reinforced polymer bars' (2023, Structural Concrete), 'Nonlinear analysis of square steel-reinforced concrete-filled steel tubular columns subjected to axial compression' (2023, Structural Concrete), 'Inelastic analysis of octagonal concrete-filled steel tubular short columns under eccentric loading' (2023, Structural Concrete), 'Seismic Performance of Drop-In Anchors in Concrete under Shear Loading' (2024, Buildings), and 'Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Punching Shear Behaviour of RC Flat Slabs' (2025). These studies provide critical insights into flexural behaviour, buckling resistance, strengthening techniques for reinforced concrete elements, and sustainable construction practices, contributing to safer and more efficient infrastructure designs. He is associated with the Centre for Infrastructure Monitoring and Protection at Curtin University.
