Dr. Mirzet Šeho is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business, Monash University Malaysia, with nearly fifteen years of industry and academic experience. He has held prominent leadership roles, including Head of Financial Controlling at two organizations—one a high-volume subsidiary of a publicly listed multinational corporation—Executive Director at a medium-sized group of companies, and Product Manager at a startup. These positions honed his expertise in financial controlling, innovation, and product development in dynamic environments. Šeho earned his PhD in Islamic Finance from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in 2018, with a dissertation titled 'The effects of loan and financing portfolio diversification on bank returns and risk in dual-banking systems.' His research specializations encompass Islamic finance and banking, FinTech, corporate finance, financial economics, and green finance. A multi-award-winning researcher, he received the Best Paper Award from the Journal of Muamalat and Islamic Finance Research in 2016 (shared with Alaabed and Masih), and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal Best Paper Awards in 2018 (shared with Ibrahim) and 2019 (shared with Bacha). He has earned several teaching excellence recognitions for his pioneering fintech courses at Monash University Malaysia, which integrate practical insights, industry guest speakers, and academic rigor for undergraduate and master’s students.
Šeho's key publications include 'The effects of interest rate on Islamic bank financing instruments: Cross-country evidence from dual-banking systems' (Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, 2020, with Bacha and Smolo), 'Bank financing diversification, market structure, and stability in a dual-banking system' (Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, 2024, with Bacha and Smolo), 'Does sectoral diversification of loans and financing improve bank returns and risk in dual-banking systems?'
