Mira Kim is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton, in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. Her research interests encompass Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Intelligent Software Systems. Dr. Kim's work bridges academic research and practical applications, drawing from her strong industrial background at IBM and Samsung. As a faculty member, she contributes to the Center for Cybersecurity and participates in interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Titans Thinking Together project on AI agents.
Dr. Kim has co-authored significant publications in her field. In 2025, she published the book Hands-on Software Architecture: Unified Architecture Process with Soo Dong Kim through Springer. This comprehensive guide introduces the Unified Architecture Process (UAP), a methodological framework for designing software architectures in modern industrial systems, complete with guidelines, resources, architecture styles catalog, and over 140 exercises for hands-on learning. In 2023, she served as the corresponding author for the paper GPT-Empowered Personalized eLearning System for Programming Languages, published in Applied Sciences. This work presents an innovative system leveraging GPT for dynamic, personalized content generation, prompt engineering, autonomous grading, and session management across programming languages. Additional contributions include the paper Personalized Health Assistant with Reinforcement Learning and Reinforcement Learning Architecture for Facial Skin Treatment Recommendation System, both featuring collaborations with Soo Dong Kim. At CSUF, Dr. Kim advises student research, serves on thesis committees for projects like Nonconsensual Deepfake Pornography analysis and Estimating the Health Quality of Campus Meals Using Artificial Intelligence, and guides teams in competitions such as the Justice League's Dignity Plug-in for social justice issues.
