Michelle Arroyo is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She holds a Ph.D. in Teacher Education, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, and a B.S. in Business Management. Before joining UNLV faculty, Arroyo accumulated extensive classroom experience teaching elementary grades in the Clark County School District and at Academia Charter Schools, and served as a graduate teaching assistant at UNLV. In her current role, she instructs face-to-face and online undergraduate and graduate courses, equipping teacher education students with essential methods and theories for effective teaching. Arroyo collaborates with colleagues on research into best practices for teachers and teacher retention, while supporting future educators entering the profession.
Arroyo's scholarly contributions include a book chapter titled "The Social and Emotional Issues of Teacher's Professional Identity Development," published in 2021 in the textbook Leading Schools With Social, Emotional, and Academic Development (SEAD). She also co-authored "A Content Analysis of Coaching Novice Teachers" with Linda F. Quinn, Lois Paretti, and Jane McCarthy. Her presentations highlight practical pedagogical strategies, such as the 90-minute interactive workshop "In the Moment: Making Learning Engaging with Formative Assessment," delivered in partnership with the UNLV Teaching & Learning Technology Commons; "Connecting with Students as a Motivator for Learning" (February 2019); "Are We There YET? The Power of Yet for Adult Students" (January 2020), focusing on growth mindset for college learners; and others emphasizing compassion, empathy, student motivation, and responsive teaching practices. In recognition of her instructional excellence, she was selected as Graduate Teacher of the Year in 2019 by the UNLV College of Education. Through her multifaceted work, Arroyo advances teacher preparation and professional development in education.
