About Michael

Dr Michael Waller is a Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at the University of Queensland. He earned a Bachelor (Honours) of Science (Advanced) from the University of Liverpool, a Master of Science (coursework) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland in 2016, with a thesis on the healthy soldier effect and experiences of deployed Australian Defence Force personnel. A Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, he serves as Associate Editor and peer reviewer for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. His career includes contributions to the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH) since 2012, previous work on cancer screening programs, and military health studies through the Centre for Military and Veterans’ Health at UQ.

Dr Waller’s research specializations encompass biostatistics, epidemiological modelling, and analysis of linked administrative datasets, with a current focus on dementia incidence, prevalence, and risk factors. He has investigated multimorbidity using death records, menstrual disorders and workforce participation, infectious disease risks in military settings, and long-term health outcomes in women.
