A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), she holds qualifications including Registered General Nurse (RGN), BA (Hons), Diploma in Nursing (DipN), MSc in Cancer Nursing, and PhD from the Institute of Cancer Research, University of London (2004). Her career commenced as a staff nurse at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, UK, caring for patients with head-and-neck and lung cancers. She advanced to primary nurse in a clinical trials unit at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Relocating to Melbourne in 2003, she joined Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre's Department of Nursing and Supportive Care Research under Professor Sanchia Aranda, later serving as Deputy Director. She has extensive experience in postgraduate supervision and leadership on nursing and multidisciplinary committees.

Professor Krishnasamy's research focuses on cancer supportive care, health equity, patient and carer experiences with poor-prognosis and rare cancers, and nurse contributions to outcomes. Her program addresses functional, physical, social, and emotional challenges, developing nurse-led interventions like co-designed web-apps for pancreatic cancer support and statewide supportive care integration. Key projects include mapping care patterns for multiple myeloma patients and evaluating home-based exercise for lung cancer. Notable publications encompass 'Refocusing cancer supportive care: a framework for integrated cancer care' (2022, Supportive Care in Cancer), 'Home-Based Exercise and Self-Management After Lung Cancer Resection: A Randomized Clinical Trial' (2024), 'Equity in cancer care: mixed methods clinical utility analysis of the Nursing Equity Assessment Tool (NEAT)' (2024), 'Patient experience of a home-based exercise and self-management program after lung cancer surgery' (2025), and contributions to 'Fatigue in Cancer' (2004). Her internationally recognised work has advanced advanced-practice nursing roles, influenced health policy, and expanded cancer nursing research agendas through embedded consumer engagement across diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
