Makes complex topics easy to understand.
Megan Christensen serves as Administrator in the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine on the Dunedin campus, where she supports the Early Learning in Medicine (ELM) programme. This programme constitutes the first two years of the MBChB degree, providing students with foundational knowledge in medical sciences including anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and behavioural science. ELM incorporates clinical skills training, integrated case-based learning, early professional experiences through community and on-campus patient interactions, and vertical modules on professional development, ethics, cultural contexts of medical practice, and evidence-based medicine.
The programme structure emphasises small-group tutorials, lectures, laboratory practicals, and independent study, with tutorials accounting for about 15% of student time and formal teaching roughly half, leaving the remainder for self-directed learning. Staff from the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and Dunedin School of Medicine contribute as Teaching Fellows and Professional Practice Fellows. Megan Christensen's direct dial is +64 3 556 6432.
