Meena Chavan is an Associate Professor of International Business and Entrepreneurship and Program Director of the Master of Research (Management) at Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University. She holds qualifications in Business Management including BCom, MCom, and PhD, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Prior to her academic career, she worked as a mergers and acquisitions analyst and auditor with KPMG and Ernst & Young. Her international academic experience includes research fellowships at EMLV – École de Commerce et de Management à Paris, France, and the University of Hamburg, School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, Germany. As a member of the Innovation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship Research Centre, the Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence, and the Global Indigenous Futures Research Centre at Macquarie University, she contributes to interdisciplinary research addressing global challenges. Chavan has supervised ten doctoral completions as principal supervisor and numerous honours and Master of Research theses. She is a member of the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business.
Her research focuses on international business, entrepreneurship, and sustainability, with particular emphasis on economic anthropology, immigrant, refugee, women, and Indigenous entrepreneurs, and the interface between entrepreneurship, international business, government–MNE strategy, and societal issues. She investigates macro-, meso-, and micro-level institutional forces shaping firm strategies and outcomes using qualitative and quantitative methods. Her publications appear in leading journals including Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of World Business, Academy of Management Discoveries, Journal of International Management, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Small Business Management, International Business Review, Business Strategy and the Environment, Technovation, International Marketing Review, Habitat International, and International Journal of Intercultural Relations. Chavan is the author and editor of four scholarly books: Intercultural Management in Practice (Emerald, 2021), Exploring the Economic Opportunities and Impacts of Migrant Entrepreneurship (IGI Global, 2022), Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs in Australia: Shooting for the Stars (Routledge, 2025), and Women’s Entrepreneurship in the Asian Region (Routledge, 2025). She serves on the editorial review boards of Journal of International Management, Small Business Economics, and European Journal of International Management, and has guest-edited special issues on underdog and Indigenous entrepreneurship in Journal of Business Research and Entrepreneurship & Regional Development. Chavan has led and delivered eleven interdisciplinary research and consultancy projects in collaboration with governments, academic institutions, and industry partners. Her contributions have earned the Vice-Chancellor’s Citation for sustained leadership in experiential and work-integrated learning, Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (2016), the Emerald Literati Network Award for Excellence (2006), and six Best Paper Awards at international conferences including Academy of Management (2023, 2017), EURAM (2016), ANZAM (2015), IHRM (2015), and ICSB (2005).
