Mauro Falasca is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management at East Carolina University's College of Business, contributing to the Business & Economics faculty with his expertise in operations and supply chain topics. He earned his Ph.D. in Business Information Technology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2009, with a dissertation titled 'Quantitative Decision Models for Humanitarian Logistics,' and holds an MBA from East Carolina University awarded in 2005. Falasca joined East Carolina University around 2010, progressing from Assistant Professor to his current associate professorship. His career emphasizes teaching courses in supply chain management and operations, earning high student evaluations, and advising the Student ISCM Chapter. He has also led study abroad programs, including Summer in Buenos Aires.
Falasca's research interests center on supply chain risk management, humanitarian logistics, procurement optimization, returns management, counterfeit risk in healthcare supply chains, and performance outcomes in industrial solutions. His scholarly contributions include key publications such as 'A two-stage procurement model for stochastic demand in hospital blood banks' in the Journal of the Operational Research Society (2012), 'Helping a small NGO manage volunteer assignments: An optimization model' in Interfaces (2011), 'Performance outcomes and success factors of industrial vending solutions' in the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management (2017), 'Measuring returns management orientation' in the International Journal of Logistics Management (2017), 'The impact of counterfeit risk management on healthcare supply chain performance' in the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management (2022), 'Risk management integration and supply chain performance in ISO 31000 certified organizations' also in the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management (2020), and 'Workforce Configuration in Charity Settings: A Forward-Looking Approach' in Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (2024). For his outstanding teaching, he received the UNC Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching Award in 2018-2019. Falasca maintains an active presence in academic conferences and student mentoring within the Business & Economics domain.
