About Matthew

Professor Matthew Dolan is a Professor of Physics in the School of Physics, Faculty of Science, at the University of Melbourne. A theoretical particle physicist, he specializes in particle physics phenomenology, focusing on the phenomenology of Beyond-the-Standard Model physics. Dolan's research interests include all aspects of dark matter phenomenology, such as light dark matter-nucleon scattering, absorption of fermionic dark matter via the scalar portal, and neutrino portals to MeV WIMPs. He investigates neutrinos as the Sun's secret messengers and develops new techniques for detecting lighter dark matter types. Additionally, Dolan advances analysis methods for collider physics, including precise predictions for the Migdal effect and searches at facilities like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and Hyper-Kamiokande. He is affiliated with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics and serves as Chair of the Academic Programs Committee in the School of Physics. Dolan has coordinated advanced majors in Physics and Mathematical Physics.

Dolan's contributions have garnered over 10,104 citations on Google Scholar. His key publications include "The Belle II physics book" (2019), "Simplified models for dark matter searches at the LHC" (2015), "Recommendations on presenting LHC searches for missing transverse energy signals using simplified s-channel models of dark matter" (2020), "Revised constraints and Belle II sensitivity for visible and invisible axion-like particles" (2017), and "Higgs self-coupling measurements at the LHC" (2012). These works provide simplified models and recommendations influential in LHC dark matter searches. Prior to his faculty position at the University of Melbourne since 2015, he held postdoctoral appointments at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (2013-2015) and the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology at Durham University (2010-2013).
