Mary Frances (Mimi) Pipino, PhD, is the Interim Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences & Professional Studies, Director of the Core Curriculum, and Professor of English at Ursuline College. She earned her PhD from the University of Cincinnati, specializing in ethnic American women’s literature, feminist theory and literary criticism, and the Victorian novel. Her doctoral dissertation, “I Have Found My Voice”: The Italian-American Woman Writer, was published in 2000 by Peter Lang as part of the Currents in Comparative Romance Literatures and Languages series. This work highlights her early focus on Italian-American women writers and their literary contributions.
Dr. Pipino’s scholarly research and teaching interests encompass ethnic and world literature, popular culture, feminist theory, and multi-ethnic literary studies. She has published peer-reviewed articles in prominent journals and collections, including Voices in Italian Americana, MELUS: Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States, The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Multiethnic Literature of the United States, and the Modern Language Association’s volume on Teaching Anglophone Caribbean Literature. At Ursuline College, she contributes to interdisciplinary programs such as the Women’s Studies Minor, the Humanities Bachelor’s Degree Program, and the Africana Studies Pathway Certificate, reflecting her expertise in diverse literary traditions and cultural studies. As Director of the Core Curriculum, also known as the Ursuline Studies Program, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s liberal arts education framework. Her leadership as Interim Dean oversees academic programs across arts, sciences, and professional studies, fostering an environment for integrative learning and scholarly inquiry.
