Mark Suazo, Ph.D., served as Dean and Professor of Management in the Adrian and Margaret Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies at the University of Central Missouri, beginning July 11, 2022. Selected through a national search following the retirement of the previous dean, Suazo brought approximately 25 years of higher education experience combined with prior professional roles as an engineer and program manager for multimillion-dollar projects. A first-generation college graduate, he earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership and Organizational Behavior from the University of Kansas in 2002, Master of Science in Industrial Engineering with a concentration in Engineering Management from the University of Tennessee in 1994, and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1989.
Suazo's distinguished academic career includes serving as Chair of the Department of Business Management at Springfield College since 2020, assistant and associate professor in the Department of Management and International Business at Wright State University where he also acted as special assistant to the associate provost and assistant vice president for Curricular Programs, co-leading the Executive MBA Program and teaching as an assistant professor in the Department of Management at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and assistant professor in the Department of Management at Bryant University. He entered higher education in 1997 as an instructor at the University of Kansas. Prior to academia, from 1989 to 1996, Suazo held positions with the United States Department of Energy National Laboratories in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Los Alamos, New Mexico. Throughout his career, he has taught courses in business ethics, diversity in the workplace, human resource management, leadership, management, and organizational behavior. During his tenure at UCM, the college's online part-time MBA program received national recognition from Fortune Education, and the new Skyhaven Aviation Center was celebrated.
