About Margaret

Associate Professor Margaret Osborne holds the first interdisciplinary position of Associate Professor in Psychology and Music (Performance Science) at the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, University of Melbourne. She earned a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Macquarie University, a PhD from the University of Sydney in 2000, and a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching from the University of Melbourne in 2015. A registered psychologist, her research specializations encompass performance science, music performance anxiety, psychological interventions to enhance mental skills and resilience, health and wellbeing of musicians and athletes, and innovative applications such as virtual reality for performance training under pressure.

Osborne co-developed and served as the inaugural convenor of the Master of Professional Psychology program within the University of Melbourne's 5+1 professional psychology training pathway. Her earlier career included a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music from 2010 to 2016. With over 3,193 citations on Google Scholar, her work has profoundly impacted the field of performance psychology.
