Margaret Morgan serves as the Director of Quality Advancement at the University of Otago, having been appointed as the inaugural leader of the Quality Advancement Unit (QAU) in the Academic Division in November 2010. Under her leadership, the QAU manages the university's ongoing cycle of quality enhancement and assurance initiatives, encompassing academic and administrative departmental reviews, core institutional student and graduate opinion surveys, quality forums, teaching improvement grants, preparations for external academic audits, and liaison with the Academic Quality Agency for New Zealand Universities (AQA). Her work supports the continuous enhancement of teaching, learning, student experience, and institutional effectiveness across all divisions of the university.
Morgan earned her Master of Arts degree from the University of Otago in 1992, with a thesis entitled 'The Right Man for His Time: Donald McNaughton Stuart D.D. M.A.', which informed her contribution to the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography. She also holds a Diploma in Archives and Records Management from Monash University. Her extensive career at Otago includes a range of administrative roles, such as Quality Advancement Manager in the late 1990s, and Director of Policy and Programmes in the Health Sciences Divisional Office immediately prior to her current position. Among her publications is the 1999 article 'Equipping Leaders to Capitalise on the Outcomes of Quality Reviews', co-authored with Phil Meade and Chris Heath and published in Quality in Higher Education. Morgan contributes to university governance as a member of the University Academic Committee, the Committee for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching, and as convener of the Surveys Coordination Group. She is also co-convener of the Te Manahua New Zealand Universities Women in Leadership (NZUWiL) Steering Group and serves as an auditor for the AQA.
