Associate Professor Margaret Matanda is a faculty member in the Discipline of Marketing at the University of Sydney Business School. She holds a PhD from Monash University, with her doctoral research focusing on the role of business-to-business relationships and supply chain capabilities. Additionally, she earned an MBA from West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (Honours) from the National University of Lesotho. Prior to her appointment at the University of Sydney, Matanda served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marketing at Monash University. Her career reflects a commitment to advancing marketing and management scholarship, particularly in dynamic business environments.
Matanda's research specializations include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurship, strategic management, marketing management, business-to-business branding, buyer-seller relationships, supply chain management, and innovation, often with a focus on emerging markets. She has authored or co-authored more than 41 publications, garnering over 4,000 citations on Google Scholar and 2,700 on ResearchGate. Key publications encompass "Supply chain finance in enhancing supply-oriented and demand-oriented performance capabilities – moderating role of perceived partner opportunism" (2022, Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing), "Role of compatibility and supply chain process integration in facilitating supply chain capabilities and organizational performance" (2019), "The determinants of franchise brand loyalty in B2B markets: An emerging market perspective" (2017), "Advancing theory and knowledge in the business-to-business branding literature" (2016, Journal of Business Research), and "Drivers of formal and informal retail patronage in emerging markets" (2024, International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management). Her work has contributed to enhancing supply chain capabilities and export potential for small firms in emerging and frontier markets. Matanda is involved in research groups including the Consumer Insights Research Group and the Marketing and the UN SDGs ANZ Research & Education network at the University of Sydney. She has supervised PhD theses on topics such as adaptive marketing capabilities and organizational performance.
