About Marcos

Professor Marcos Perini is a surgeon-scientist and Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Austin Health, University of Melbourne, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. He holds an MD, MSc, and PhD from the University of São Paulo, along with FRACS accreditation from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Perini completed HPB and liver transplant training at Austin Hospital, Melbourne, and international fellowships at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, and the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. As an HPB and Liver Transplant Surgeon at Austin Hospital, he specializes in laparoscopic liver surgery, managing benign and malignant conditions of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts via open and minimally invasive approaches. A core member of the Liver Group in Melbourne Medical School, his research centers on hepatobiliary diseases, including colorectal liver metastases and hepatocellular carcinoma, exploring tumor recurrence mechanisms after resection, novel chemotherapeutics, host-tumor interactions, renin-angiotensin system roles in tumor progression, and translational models of colorectal cancer metastases.
