About Malcolm

Malcolm Pradhan is an Adjunct Professor in the Biomedical Informatics and Digital Health Research Theme, School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. He earned his MBBS from the University of Adelaide and a PhD in Medical Informatics from Stanford University. A Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Informatics (FACHI) and a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (FAIDH), Pradhan brings over 25 years of experience in health informatics. Previously, he served as Associate Dean of IT and Director of Medical Informatics at the University of Adelaide, where he conducted research on clinical decision support using statistical and probabilistic methods. In 2009, he was appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of South Australia, contributing to education and research leadership. Pradhan is a co-founder of Alcidion Corporation Pty Ltd, established in 2000, and has held positions including Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director at Alcidion Group Limited. He is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in clinical decision support systems.

Pradhan's research focuses on digital health, artificial intelligence in healthcare, guideline adherence, and clinical decision support. His recent publications include 'Data-Driven Guideline Adherence in Data Representation and Compliance Measurement: Scoping Review' in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (2026), co-authored with University of Sydney colleagues; 'Evaluating the Utility of a Clinical Sepsis AI Tool in Emergency Waiting Rooms: A Preliminary Silent Trial' (2025); 'How digital health translational research is prioritised: a qualitative stakeholder-driven approach to decision support evaluation' in BMJ Open (2023); and 'Equitable Machine Learning for Hypoglycaemia Risk Management' in MEDINFO 2023. Earlier work includes contributions to decision models using Monte Carlo simulation and Bayesian networks for clinical applications such as breast cancer prediction. He has presented at conferences including HIC 2017 and MedInfo 2023, and was a founding fellow of the Australasian College of Health Informatics. His work advances high-performance healthcare systems through intellectual property in clinical decision support software.
