Magdalena Czader, MD, PhD, is the Virgil Moon Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. She received her MD from the Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznań, Poland, and her PhD from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Following her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency and chief residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital (1997–2001), she completed a Hematopathology Fellowship there (2001–2002). Czader joined Indiana University in 2002, rising to prominent leadership positions, including serving as Interim Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Currently, she is Vice Chair of Clinical Pathology, Director of the Indiana University Health Pathology Laboratories, Director of the Division of Hematopathology, Medical Director of the Hematology Laboratory and Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory at IU Health Pathology Laboratories, and Director of the Hematopathology Fellowship Training Program.
Her research focuses on hematopathology, emphasizing precision diagnostics through the integration of advanced technologies such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbiome analysis, and pharmacogenomics with clinical and laboratory data to facilitate personalized medicine approaches. Notable publications include 'Therapy-Related Myeloid Neoplasms' in the American Journal of Clinical Pathology (2009) and contributions to 'The 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Haematolymphoid Tumours' in Leukemia (2022). Czader has obtained significant funding, including an NIH K23 career development award, and has led multiple clinical contracts. She was honored as an 'Idol of Innovation' in The Pathologist's Power List 2024 for her contributions to pathology innovations. In professional societies, she has served as President, Secretary/Treasurer, and on the Executive Committee of the Society for Hematopathology. At Indiana University School of Medicine, she participates in Promotion and Tenure Committees, the Women’s Advisory Council, Graduate Medical Education Committee, and the Multiple Myeloma Precision Health Initiative.
