Lwazi Lushaba serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Political Studies at the University of Cape Town. His academic qualifications include a BA (Hons) from the University of Transkei, an MA in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan, an MPhil from the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences in Kolkata, and a PhD in Political Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand. Previously, Lwazi Lushaba taught at the University of Fort Hare and the University of the Witwatersrand, and he held a Visiting Fellowship at the African Studies Centre in Leiden, The Netherlands. As part of the permanent academic staff in Political Science, he contributes to teaching and supervision in the department.
Lwazi Lushaba's research interests in Political Science cover political philosophy, with emphasis on German phenomenology and Enlightenment philosophy; Subaltern Studies, including decolonial thought, the politics of representation, and postcolonial theory; African politics, such as African political economy and the postcolonial African state; and radical African/Black traditions of intellectual thought. His key publications include the co-edited volume with Cheryl Hendricks, From National Liberation to Democratic Renaissance in Southern Africa (CODESRIA, Dakar, 2005), and the monograph Development as Modernity, Modernity as Development (CODESRIA, Dakar, 2009). These works address pivotal themes in Southern African political development and decolonial perspectives.
