Luis F. Pieretti, PhD, CIH, CSP, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Systems Management at the University of South Florida College of Public Health, a position he has held since August 2023. He concurrently serves as Director of the University of South Florida OSHA Training Institute Education Center and Director of the Sunshine Education and Research Center’s Continuing Education Program. Additionally, he is Principal of Pinaz Group, LLC since January 2024. Pieretti earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health with a concentration in Industrial Hygiene from the University of South Florida in August 2010, Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene from the Medical Science Campus of the University of Puerto Rico in June 2003, and Bachelor of Science in Biology from Inter American University of Puerto Rico in May 2001. He holds professional certifications including Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC), Workers' Compensation Professional (WCP), and AIHA Registered Specialist in Exposure Decision Analysis. His specializations encompass exposure assessment and control, risk analysis, occupational injury prevention and management, workers’ compensation data analysis, and Total Worker Health.
Prior to his current roles, Pieretti served as Manager of Industrial Hygiene at The MEMIC Group from August 2016 to August 2023, Safety Management Consultant at MEMIC from May 2013 to August 2016, Safety and Health Consultant with the USF SafetyFlorida OSHA 21(d) Consultation Program from July 2009 to April 2013, President of Pinaz Consulting Services, Inc. from August 2008 to July 2009, and Industrial Hygiene Specialist at Johnson & Johnson Business Services in Puerto Rico from February 2003 to July 2005. He is the author of peer-reviewed publications such as "Relationship Analysis of Injured Workers’ Average Weekly Wages and Workers’ Compensation Indemnity Claims in Maine, US: 1998–2017" (Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, 2022), "Medical Cost of Workers’ Compensation Claims Related to Patient Handling and Mobility Tasks Within Skilled Nursing Facilities, Continuing Care Retirement Communities and Assisted Living Facilities: An Exploratory Analysis" (Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, 2020), "Performance of a whole-body human dust inhalation challenge exposure chamber" (Toxicology Reports, 2018), and "Performance of a human inhalation challenge exposure system. I. Gases" (Inhalation Toxicology, 2011). Pieretti has delivered professional presentations and courses on topics including fundamentals of air sampling, noise monitoring, nanoparticles, and Total Worker Health at conferences such as the Maine Safety and Health Conference and Florida AIHA Conference. He serves as a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health from 2022 to 2025 and is affiliated with organizations including the American Industrial Hygiene Association, American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, American Society of Safety Professionals, National Safety Council, National Hearing Conservation Association, Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare, and American Public Health Association.
