Dr. Luciano Lopez serves as Assistant Professor of applied economics at EHL Hospitality Business School and Dean of EHL Campus (Singapore). He joined the EHL Group in February 2018 as a visiting lecturer in Economics while completing his PhD thesis on foreign aid at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. That same year, he secured a position as Assistant Professor within the EHL faculty. In March 2021, EHL announced his appointment as Dean of EHL Campus (Singapore), with him assuming the role on July 1, 2021. Lopez earned his PhD in Economics and Master of Science in Economics, majoring in Economic Policy, both from the University of Neuchâtel. His expertise encompasses applied economics, circular economy practices in the hospitality industry, development economics, foreign aid, and trade economics. He teaches Business Tools I as part of the Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management program at EHL Campus Singapore.
Lopez's research examines the effects of foreign aid, including its promotion of tourism demand for donor countries and impacts on donor economies such as Switzerland. Notable publications include 'Does official development assistance promote tourism demand for donor countries? Evidence from Switzerland' co-authored with G. Bianchi and Y. Chen (Tourism Economics, 2023); 'Testing for Granger causality in panel data' with S. Weber (Stata Journal, 2017); 'XTGCAUSE: Stata module to test for Granger non-causality in heterogeneous panels' (Boston College Department of Economics, 2017); and 'Granger Causality in Panel Datasets: Relationship Between Economic Growth and CO2 Emissions' (Applied Econometric Analysis Using Cross Section and Panel Data, 2024). Additional works feature conference proceedings on guests' perceptions of circular economy practices in hotels (APacCHRIE 2023) and hotels' circular economy efforts (EMAC 2022), as well as 'Causal links between bilateral aid and exports: The Swiss case' (IRENE Working Paper, 2017) and 'The impact of official development assistance on the donor's economy' (Université de Neuchâtel, 2018). He has been honored with the EHL Best Emergency Remote Teaching Award 2020 and the Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching 2016 from the Université de Neuchâtel.
