Lubna Rahman is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Banking and Finance within the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. She joined Monash in July 2019 as a Lecturer, equivalent to Assistant Professor, and has since been promoted to Senior Lecturer. Prior to Monash, Rahman was a Lecturer at the UNSW Business School. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Finance and an MPhil in Finance from UNSW Business School—the latter awarded with the prestigious Endeavour Postgraduate Award—and an MBA from the University of Dhaka. Rahman's research focuses on corporate finance, encompassing agency conflicts, labor and finance, corporate social responsibility, family firms, and ownership structures. Her work explores critical intersections between corporate governance, innovation, workplace safety, and executive compensation.
Rahman has published in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Journal of Empirical Legal Studies. Notable publications include "Incentive contracting in the shadow of litigation risk: evidence from universal demand laws" (2025), "The impact of product market competition on workplace safety" (2025), "Shades of grey: risk-related agency conflicts and corporate innovation" (2023), "Eyes on the prize: do industry tournament incentives shape the structure of executive compensation?" (2022), and "Powerful CEOs and corporate governance" (2022). Her research has garnered recognition through multiple Best Paper Awards, including at the New Zealand Finance Meeting (2017), as a semi-finalist at the Financial Management Association (FMA) Annual Meeting (2019), and further awards in July 2023 and March 2026. Rahman has presented her research at prominent conferences, including SFS Cavalcade Asia-Pacific, Finance Down Under, China International Conference in Finance, American Law and Economics Association, Conference on Empirical Legal Studies, and FMA Asia-Pacific. One of her papers was featured in the European Corporate Governance Institute's Preamble and working paper series. Additionally, her contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. She is open to supervising PhD students from 2021 to 2025.
