Louis Vayo II serves as Professor and Department Chair of the Economics Discipline at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, where he oversees faculty and departmental activities. He also holds the position of Co-Chair for the Business Administration department within the Business Division. Vayo's academic background includes dual Master’s degrees in Applied Economics and Environmental Policy from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Economics and Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. These degrees reflect his focused expertise in applying economic principles to environmental and policy contexts.
Prior to his graduate studies and academic career, Vayo served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Community and Economic Development sector in a Kenyan community for two years. During his service, he coordinated and led gender empowerment camps, taught local residents sustainable waste management and agricultural practices, and developed income-generating activities for women’s groups. Vayo maintains ongoing collaboration with the Kenyan community on initiatives including tree-planting, conservation agriculture, and support for the local school. Vayo has been teaching economics since 2012, with prior experience at California State University, Long Beach. At Mt. San Antonio College, he has contributed to the creation and evaluation of student learning outcomes for economics and environmental economics courses. He is passionate about teaching, inspiring students, and integrating the diverse life experiences they bring to the classroom.
