About Lisa

Lisa Lewis is Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries at the University of South Wales. She earned her PhD in Theatre Studies from Aberystwyth University in 2000, with the thesis titled 'The Paradox of the Actor in the Work of Constantin Stanislavsky and Vsevolod Meyerhold.' As Co-director of the Centre for Media and Culture in Small Nations, her work centers on creative industries in Wales and other small nations, encompassing media, culture, theatre, performance, music, and cultural heritage. Her research specializations include transcultural theatre and performance, performance and heritage or the museum, intangible cultural heritage, performance and festivals, theatre and minority languages, and the interdisciplinarity of history and performance. She welcomes enquiries for PhD supervision in performance and creative industries.

Lewis led as Principal Investigator the Leverhulme Trust-funded 'Welsh and Khasi Cultural Dialogues: An Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance Project' from 2016 to 2019, promoting exchanges between Welsh and Khasi artists from North-East India through workshops, performances, and publications, including the Performing Journeys portfolio. She is Co-Investigator on 'Aurora Borealis: an exploration in form.' Her key publications include editing Performing Wales: People, Memory and Place (University of Wales Press, 2018), and chapters such as 'Continuity and Change in the Welsh Eisteddfod: the interchangeability of tradition and innovation in intangible cultural heritage' (2025, Routledge), 'Translation in the Welsh-Khasi Cultural Exchange: Contemporary Performance and Embodied Experience' (2025, Routledge), 'Plethu Diwylliannau Perfformio: Theatr Transwyllyddol Gyfoes rhwng Cymru a Bryniau Casia' (2023, University of Wales Press), '‘A oes a’ch deil o hyd mewn Cof a Chalon?’ Myfyrdodau ar theatr a pherfformio byw yn sgil y cyfnod clo' (2024), and 'Orality as Dramaturgy in the Khasi-Welsh Performance Exchange: Performing Journeys by the Khasi-Cymru Collective' (2021). She contributes to conferences, invited talks, book launches, and research dissemination events.
