Ms Lisa Cunningham is a Lecturer in Radiation Therapy in the School of Allied Health and Human Performance, College of Health, at Adelaide University. She earned a Bachelor of Medical Radiation (Radiation Therapy) and a Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) from the University of South Australia. With 15 years of clinical experience in the public sector in Adelaide, including a secondment to Darwin in 2010 to help establish the Northern Territory's first radiation therapy centre, she began her academic career as a casual tutor at UniSA. Employed full-time as a lecturer since 2019, she now teaches all radiation therapy courses in the Bachelor of Medical Radiation Sciences program, coordinates clinical placements like Radiation Therapy Clinical Practice 4, supervises honours students, and develops teaching resources. An inaugural member of the UniSA Authentic Assessment Design Lab, her teaching emphasizes authentic assessment and clinical simulation.
Her research interests include proton radiation therapy patient selection and the impacts of COVID-19, dosimetric indices in proton versus x-ray radiotherapy for breast cancer, and estimation of second primary cancer risks from proton therapy. Key publications are Wood et al. (2025) on proton therapy patient selection survey in Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences; Wood et al. (2024) scoping review on the same; Cunningham et al. (2021) on breast size impact in Journal of Personalized Medicine; Santos et al. (2021) on second primary cancer risk in Acta Oncologica; and Douglass et al. (2021) on cost-effectiveness for proton therapy in breast cancer patients in Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences.
