Dr. Linda Sekhon is the Founding Chair and Professor in the Department of Medical Sciences at High Point University, as well as the Founding Director of the Doctor of Medical Science Program. She holds a Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) from Nova Southeastern University (2010), a Master of Medical Science (MMS) from Saint Francis University (1997), and a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Physician Assistant from Gannon University (1983). A certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) since 1983, she maintains an extensive clinical background with a focus in rheumatology, including positions at the University of Pittsburgh, Allegheny North Arthritis Center, Westmoreland Primary Health Care, Cornerstone Internal Medicine, and earlier roles in oncology, endocrinology, and internal medicine. Sekhon transitioned to PA education in 1996, serving in faculty roles such as clinical coordinator, academic coordinator, and assistant program director at Chatham University, Seton Hill College, and Duquesne University.
In 2012, she joined High Point University as Founding Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, achieving tenure as Professor until 2020, followed by a brief tenure at Butler University as Chair of Medical Sciences and DMSc Program Director before returning to High Point University in 2021 in her current roles, overseeing development of additional graduate programs in healthcare administration and biomedical sciences. Her scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications such as "Maximizing treatment Benefits in Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis: How PAs can Help Improve Outcomes" (JAAPA, 2019), "Incorporating the New ACR Classification Criteria for Early Recognition and Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis" (JAAPA, 2011, recipient of AAPA Paragon Publishing Award, 3rd place), "RS3PE: A Case Study" (JAAPA, 2010), and others on topics in rheumatology, PA education, and clinical practice. Sekhon has received the AAPA House of Delegates Outstanding Service Award (2019), Michael J. Habeck Lifetime Achievement Award (Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants, 2012), and Distinguished Fellow status from AAPA (2009). She has presented extensively on rheumatology and PA education at national and state conferences, facilitated PAEA workshops, and held leadership positions including President of the Physician Assistant Education Association (2023), Chair of AAPA Governance Commission (2012-2016), President of Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants (2007-2009), and service on boards such as Wake Forest Baptist Health-High Point Medical Center and the North Carolina Medical Journal Editorial Board.
