A true inspiration to all learners.
Dr. Linda Gulliver is a Senior Lecturer in the Otago Medical School, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago. She possesses a BSc and PhD, along with qualifications as a New Zealand Registered Nurse and Operating Nurse (NZRN/ON). Prior to her academic career, she practiced nursing for 20 years across various specialties in the United States and New Zealand, before transitioning into science and medical education.
Her PhD research focused on the short- and longer-term effects of estradiol on the ovarian surface epithelium, with relevance to the development of ovarian epithelial cancer. She continues collaborations in this area, including studies on the potential carcinogenic effects of low-dose environmental chemical mixtures and how health status influences pituitary function and reproductive status through cytokine-dependent mechanisms. Currently, Dr. Gulliver's research interests center on medical education, encompassing quality assurance in infection prevention and control, assessment, and interprofessional education (IPE) to foster collaborative practice. She convenes the Integrated Case Programme for the Centre for Early Learning in Medicine (ELM), instructing second- and third-year MB ChB medical students. As the Dunedin Medical Campus Lead for IPE, she collaborates across health disciplines to expand interprofessional learning opportunities. Dr. Gulliver chairs the MB ChB Medical Education Research and Evaluation Sub-Committee (MEREC) and serves on numerous committees, such as the MB ChB Curriculum Committee (MCC), MB ChB Medical Education Research Committee (MER), ELM Assessment Sub-Committee (EASC), Interprofessional Research Group, and Division of Interprofessional Education Advisory Group (DIPPAA). She is also a member of the New Zealand Family Planning Association. Key publications include 'ALLin4IPE—an international research study on interprofessional health professions education: a protocol for an ethnographic multiple-case study' (BMC Medical Education, 2024, co-authored with A.L. Falk et al.); 'Support of parenting in undergraduate medical training in New Zealand' (Medical Teacher, 2024, with M.R. Mulholland); and conference contributions such as 'Learning about our international research team as a practice' (RWL 13 Conference, 2024, with A. Iversen).
