Dr. Lily Guo is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University, Gold Coast campus, Australia. Renowned for her exceptional teaching in anatomy and physiology—the gateway subjects for health science students—she has led transformative curriculum reforms using the Southern Cross Model, an immersive block model focused on guided, active learning. This approach raised pass rates from 55 percent, boosted student satisfaction, self-confidence, and success rates, earning commendations from the Vice Chancellor and the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Guo integrates cutting-edge mixed reality technology, such as GigXR headsets, to project interactive holograms simulating clinical settings. Students report enhanced visual learning, engagement, social interaction, confidence building, and comprehension of physiological functions. Her leadership, passion, empathetic support, and warm personable style have been pivotal in providing outstanding first-year experiences and team collaboration. She holds the Associate Fellow status in the SCU Fellowship Community and will teach in the inaugural cohort of the new Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree launching in 2025 at the Gold Coast campus, featuring over 560 hours of professional placements in state-of-the-art laboratories.
Dr. Guo specializes in curriculum design, development, delivery of anatomy and physiology studies, and research on the impact of curriculum reform and transformative technology in higher education. Her peer-reviewed publication, 'Curriculum transformation leads to unlocking the gate in the gateway subjects of anatomy and physiology' (Innovations in Education and Teaching International, 2025), co-authored with Ken Wojcikowski, Elizabeth Goode, Nicola Whiteing, and Fiona Naumann, empirically demonstrates these advancements. She has presented findings at conferences, including 'Unlocking the gate: Improvements in curriculum aimed at impactful learning and student success in the gateway subjects of anatomy and physiology' at the SCU Scholarship of Learning and Teaching Symposium (2023). Among her accolades are the Faculty winner of the Vice Chancellor’s Inspiring Educator Award (2023), Faculty Student Experience Award, Faculty Team Award, and Faculty Make-You-Smile People’s Choice Award. Her contributions significantly influence teaching excellence and student outcomes in health education.
