Dr. Lawrence Pang is a lecturer in Old Testament and Deputy Head of School in the School of Philosophy and Theology at the Fremantle campus of the University of Notre Dame Australia. He also serves as Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching in the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Theology. Pang holds a Bachelor of Theology (BTheo), Master of Theology (MTheo), and PhD, all from the University of Notre Dame Australia. His doctoral research centered on Old Testament Studies, culminating in the thesis "Prophecy, Propaganda or Both: A Rereading of Hosea 1-3." His teaching encompasses Biblical Studies, Old Testament, and Theology within the Core Curriculum. Research expertise lies in Biblical Studies and Old Testament, with particular focus on the Pentateuch, Psalms, Wisdom Literature, and Prophetic Literature.
Pang has supervised multiple Master of Philosophy theses, including "A Comparative-Historical Analysis of Cross-Cultural Influences Affecting the Evolving of Christian Marriage in the First Century CE" by Kevin Smith, "Luke 1:26-38 An Integrated Theology Through Text and Art" by Kellie Costello, a historical-grammatical investigation of worship in John's Gospel by Steven Sunthang, an intertextual study of Paul's thought on the Gentile Problem by Errol Lobo, and an exegetical study of Jesus' sonship in John's Gospel by Jing Yih Hsieh. Key publications include journal articles such as "Liturgical Gestures: A Double Human Response in Worship" in Pastoral Liturgy Vol. 49 (2019) and Vol. 37 (2007), "God Is With Us" in The Furrow 69, no. 9 (2018), "Spiritual Growth Through Authentic Worship" in Compass vol. 50, no. 3 (2016), and "Beware of Behemoth and Leviathan" in Biblica et Patristica Thoruniensia 6 (2013). Pending works are "The Temple Destroyed" and "The People of the Law" in the NRSV Catholic Encyclopedia (2020). He presented "Elijah Meets God" (1 Kings 19:11-13) at Mandorla Art Award events in 2013 and co-presented "Partnership for authentic training for the profession: Collaborative and interdisciplinary teaching approach" in 2022. A member of the Society of Biblical Literature, he received the Biblical Scholarship award in 2016 from the B.J. Hickey Biblical Foundation. Community involvement includes choir participation at school masses since 2014 and prior roles as Chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council (2016-2018) at St Pius X Catholic Church and Board Member of St Pius X Catholic Primary School.
