Laura Knockel, PharmD, BCACP, FAPhA, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa in 2005 and completed a postgraduate year one (PGY1) Community Pharmacy Residency at the same institution in 2006. In her dual role, Knockel also works as a clinical pharmacist at University of Iowa Health Care, contributing to patient care at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Her promotion to Clinical Associate Professor, effective July 1, 2024, acknowledges her outstanding academic accomplishments in teaching and scholarship. Board Certified in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (BCACP), she was honored as a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association (FAPhA). Knockel earned recognition as Class Teacher of the Year in 2022 for her excellence in pharmacy education.
Knockel's academic interests and research specializations encompass pharmacy skills, immunizations, self-care, and advancements in pharmacy education. Her scholarly work focuses on student pharmacist development, including empathy, communication, and skills assessment. Knockel has presented at the APhA Annual Meeting, including on topics like medication adherence, and shared teaching innovations through the University of Iowa Council on Teaching.
