About Laly

Dr. Laly Joseph, DVM, DNP, CNE, RN, MSN, ARNP, ANP-BC, FNAP, is Dean of the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and Health Sciences and holds the Dr. Keith R. Berend '92 Endowed Chair in Nursing at Florida Southern College. Her academic journey began with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai, India, in 1985, followed by a transition to nursing with a BSN in 1993, MSN as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in 2002, and DNP in Clinical Nursing in 2009, all from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Over three decades in healthcare and academia, she has held progressive leadership positions, including Interim Dean and Professor, Vice Dean, and Senior Associate Dean at Mount Sinai Phillips School of Nursing in New York; Assistant Professor of Clinical and Graduate Program Director at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies; and RN-BSN-MSN Program Director and Clinical Assistant Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. As a board-certified adult nurse practitioner clinically active in hospice and palliative care, she has served in various clinical roles, including Adult Nurse Practitioner at Lifesource Hospice, Amedisys Hospice, and VA facilities.

Dr. Joseph's research specializations encompass patient-centered interprofessional education, palliative and end-of-life care integration in nursing curricula, mobile technology for medication error reduction, virtual simulation, electronic documentation, gerontology, oncology, and academic-practice partnerships. She has published extensively, including 'Evaluating undergraduate nursing students’ assessment skills using simulation in a “round robin” pedagogical strategy' (2022, International Forum for Nursing and Healthcare Journal), 'Using virtual simulation and electronic medical records to assess student nurses’ clinical documentation and critical thinking skills' (2021, Nurse Education Today), 'Ayurvedic Medicine: Implications for Nursing' (2018), 'Integration of an End-of-Life care course in the undergraduate curriculum and its impact on nursing students’ knowledge' (2018), and 'Women’s and Healthcare Workers’ Beliefs and Experiences Surrounding Abortions: The Case of Haiti' (2017, Journal of Nursing Scholarship). A Certified Nurse Educator, she has earned the Distinguished Fellow and Practitioner designation from the National Academies of Practice, Experienced Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy Scholar from Sigma, Chapter Key Awards from Sigma Theta Tau International, and Milbank Foundation Scholarship for ELNEC training. Dr. Joseph advocates for global academic collaborations with institutions in India, Malaysia, Belgium, Nepal, and Taiwan, and contributes as an international nursing consultant, United Nations Delegate, and editorial board member for journals like the Malaysian Journal for Qualitative Research.
