Kristy Buist is a Lecturer in Osteopathy in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Osteopathy (BAppSc(Ost)) and a Master of Osteopathy (MOst), both from the University of Western Sydney. With more than 14 years of experience as an allied healthcare professional, Buist managed and led allied health practices in Sydney, developing expertise in clinical care and practice leadership. She is based at the Gold Coast campus.
In her roles as Work Integrated Learning Academic Coordinator (WILAC) for Osteopathy and Teaching Scholar, Buist oversees the incorporation of real-world clinical experiences into student education, bridging academic theory and professional practice. She has been commended in Southern Cross University teaching awards for her adaptability and professionalism, particularly for stepping into a challenging Unit Assessor role at short notice, where she excelled by making the curriculum industry-relevant, enforcing high standards, and boosting student employability. Buist coordinates osteopathy students' involvement in the Gold Coast Marathon Recovery Hub, enabling them to deliver hands-on care and support to runners alongside exercise science peers. This real-world opportunity enhances diagnostic and treatment skills, integrates cross-disciplinary practice, supports athlete wellbeing, counts toward accredited placement hours, and is highly valued by participants. Her contributions extend to scholarship, including co-authorship of the 2026 preprint 'Ensuring quality, not just quantity, in Work-Integrated Learning in Health,' drawing on her osteopathy experience to advocate for innovative, quality-focused experiential learning.
