Krisstina Gowin, DO, is an Associate Professor of Medicine on the Clinical Scholar Track in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson. Board-certified in hematology, medical oncology, and internal medicine, she serves as Program Director of the Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program and Founder and Director of the Integrative Medicine in Hematology Oncology Fellowship. Dr. Gowin joined the University of Arizona in 2018 as Assistant Professor of Medicine, advancing to Associate Professor. Her academic journey includes a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009, where she earned a merit scholarship and recognition from the American Women's Medical Association for outstanding academic achievement. She also holds a Master of Arts in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2005, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science from the same institution in 2003. Dr. Gowin completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Southern California from 2008 to 2012, a hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona from 2012 to 2016, and an integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona from 2015 to 2017.
Dr. Gowin's research interests focus on integrative medicine in hematologic malignancies, including myeloproliferative neoplasms, multiple myeloma, and plasma cell disorders, as well as symptom management and transplant outcomes. Key publications include "Survival following allogeneic transplant in patients with myelofibrosis" in Blood Advances (2020), "Mobile App Intervention on Reducing the Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Symptom Burden: Pilot Feasibility and Acceptability Study" in JMIR Formative Research (2022), "Integrative medicine in multiple myeloma and plasma cell disorders" in Complementary Therapies in Medicine (2023), "Myeloproliferative Neoplasms: Contemporary Review and Molecular Landscape" in International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2023), and "A Review of The Synergistic Effects of Curcumin with Proteasome Inhibitors in Multiple Myeloma Preclinical Models" in Integrative Cancer Therapies (2023). She has received funding from the Weil Foundation for fellowship training and contributed to national needs assessments on integrative oncology training.
