Best lecturer in the Math department. I've had him for 5 math courses so far and I've been able to pass all of due to his teaching and excellent notes that he provides.
Dr. Kirk Morgan is a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics within the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. He holds the positions of Outreach Coordinator and Undergraduate Research Project Coordinator. His academic journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from the University of the West Indies, Mona (2013-2015), a Master of Philosophy in Mathematics from the same institution (2004-2008), a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science (1998-2002), and an Associate Degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin. Morgan's research specializations encompass Stochastic Difference Equations and General Relativity, alongside expertise in Topology, Metric Spaces, Calculus, and Computer Programming. He teaches courses such as MATH 0110, MATH 1151, and MATH 1152.
Since joining the University of the West Indies, Mona in 2008 as a lecturer, Dr. Morgan has demonstrated exceptional commitment to teaching and community outreach. He received Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching Assessment from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology, for the academic years 2010/11 and 2013/14. In 2025, he was awarded the top prize in the CIBC Caribbean Unsung Heroes Award for Jamaica, recognizing his over 15 years of delivering free Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) mathematics classes to individuals in underserved communities, initially at Papine High School and later through the National Housing Trust, without seeking compensation. His innovative pedagogical approaches, including the integration of concrete models from everyday items to illustrate abstract concepts, energetic delivery, storytelling, and personalized feedback, have profoundly influenced students, leading many to develop a passion for Mathematics and switch their studies to Mathematics or Actuarial Science. Dr. Morgan's scholarly contributions include co-authored publications such as “The Dirac Equation in the Kerr-de Sitter Metric” with Davide Batic, Marek Nowakowski, and S. Bravo Medina (Gravitation and Cosmology, 2018), “The problem of embedded eigenvalues for the Dirac equation in the Schwarzschild Black Hole metric” with Davide Batic and Marek Nowakowski (Universe, 2016), and “A Monte-Carlo approach to the effect of noise on local stability in Polynomial Difference Equations” with Conall Kelly (Matematicas: Ensenanza Universitaria, 2008).
