Kim Carter, PT, ScDPT, NCS, serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center's College of Health Professions. Board-certified as a neurologic clinical specialist, she possesses 27 years of clinical experience across diverse settings in physical therapy. Since 2020, she has instructed neurologic content within the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, leading the neurologic coursework and preparing students for clinical practice in neurologic rehabilitation. Her expertise supports the department's core faculty in delivering comprehensive education established under the program's long-standing tradition since the university's health professions initiatives began in 1911.
Engaged in university service, Kim Carter represents the College of Health Professions on the Faculty Senate's Non-Tenure Track Committee. She contributes to interprofessional education through activities documented in UTHSC's IPE Activity Repository, including a collaborative case on reducing fall risks for elderly patients. Carter has actively presented at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting, co-authoring the poster 'Learning to Fall Safely: A Novel Approach to Teaching Floor to Stand Transfers' with Myra Meekins, PT, DPT, PhD, showcased in the UTHSC College of Health Professions Magazine Spring 2023 edition. She collaborated with faculty such as Barry Dale, PhD, PT, DPT, MBA, OCS, CSCS, and LaToya Green, PT, DPT, EdD, Cert. DN, on multiple presentations advancing physical therapy education and practice at recent CSM events. Additionally, Carter participated in UTHSC Teaching and Learning Center events and demonstrations of practical skills like safe falling techniques for DPT students.
