Kelsie Fletcher is a Lecturer in Nursing in the School of Health at the University of the Sunshine Coast, having relocated from the United Kingdom in 2024. Previously, she held leadership positions at Bournemouth University, serving as Year 2 Lead for the BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Programme, Global Engagement Lead, and Unit Lead for Applied Health Care Sciences 3 and Critical Health Care Sciences. Her clinical background includes trauma and emergency nursing, remote medicine, primary healthcare, and intensive care specialist nursing. Fletcher served six years as a Nursing Officer in the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps prior to relocating to the UK in 2016, followed by a role as senior staff nurse in an NHS Intensive Care Unit until November 2017. She earned a Bachelor of Nursing in 2010 and a Master of Nursing (Critical Care - ICU) in 2017 from La Trobe University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in 2018 from Bournemouth University, and holds Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Fletcher is pursuing a PhD at Bournemouth University entitled 'The lived experiences of nurses working in disaster management and deployed in response to an international disaster,' utilizing Charmaz's grounded theory approach. Her research specializations encompass disaster management and response with a focus on the nurse's role and strategic management, lived experiences of nurses in disaster management and international deployments, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), military intensive care and trauma, intensive care patient experiences, disaster logistical planning, delivery of healthcare in humanitarian operations, peacetime, and war zones, and advanced clinical practice. In teaching, she coordinates NUR331 Complex Care, contributes to NUR241 Health Alterations, and covers pathophysiology, complex care, acute and critical care, anatomy and physiology, disaster management, and leadership through team-based learning, problem-based learning, and case studies. Notable publications include 'The history of disaster nursing: from Nightingale to nursing in the 21st century' (Fletcher, K. A., Reddin, K., & Tait, D., 2022, Journal of Research in Nursing, 27(3), 257-272) and 'The changing role of Advanced Clinical Practitioners working with older people during the COVID-19 pandemic: A qualitative research study' (Morley, D. A. et al., 2022, International Journal of Nursing Studies, 130). She co-authored the 'Global Review of Registered Nurse Scope of Practice' (Moloney et al., 2025).
