Kaylene Barchetta is an Associate Lecturer (Teaching Scholar) in Nursing in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University, located at the Gold Coast campus. Her academic qualifications comprise a Diploma in Tropical Nursing from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), a BSc from CU, and an MGPH from CRIFF. In her role, she serves as the Nursing Year 1-2 Phase Lead, a position dedicated to supporting student wellbeing and progression through the nursing degree. The Phase Lead role involves being available to discuss any personal or academic issues impacting students' studies. She is reachable at phaseleads@scu.edu.au for these matters. Barchetta is also a designated contact for Work Integrated Learning (WIL) units in nursing within the School of Health, contributing to the coordination and support of clinical placements and stakeholder relationships alongside the WIL team and unit assessors.
Barchetta actively engages in advancing nursing education through collaborative initiatives and presentations. She co-presented on 'Beyond Clinical: Student-led Innovation in the Southern Cross Model' at the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Showcase, collaborating with Associate Professor Louise Ward, Dima Nasrawi, Bernadine Romero, Donna Wilson, Katrina Austen, Dr Claire Hutchinson, Madeleine Mill, Gabby La Forest, and Professor Jennene Greenhill from the Faculty of Health. This team was selected as a finalist for the RUN Learning and Teaching Awards, acknowledging their impact on learning and teaching practices. Additionally, she participated in the Nurse Preceptors Workshop 2024 as the Year 1-2 Phase Lead from the School of Health, Nursing. Barchetta contributed as a co-author to the 2026 publication 'Community service learning in undergraduate nursing education: A scoping review' in Teaching and Learning in Nursing, performing roles including writing (review and editing, original draft), visualization, validation, resources, methodology, and investigation. Her involvement extends to clinical workbooks for units such as NURS5012 and NURS3010, where she is noted as a Nursing Phase Lead supporting WIL enhancement. These activities underscore her commitment to innovative teaching and student success in nursing at Southern Cross University.
