About Kathryn

Kathryn VandenBosch served as Professor of Plant Biology in the Agricultural and Veterinary Science faculty at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in botany from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Following her graduate studies, she held postdoctoral associate positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the John Innes Centre in Great Britain.

Prior to her appointment at the University of Minnesota in 2001, VandenBosch was faculty at Texas A&M University for 12 years. She headed the Department of Plant Biology at the University of Minnesota from 2001, with a brief interruption in 2006 to serve as interim dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. She was also a member and former chair of the executive committees of the Faculty Senate and the University Senate. Her research focuses on the genetics of plant-microbe interactions and nitrogen fixation in legumes. Notable publications include "An ERF Transcription Factor in Medicago truncatula That Is Essential for Nod Factor Signal Transduction" (The Plant Cell, 2007), "Knockdown of CELL DIVISION CYCLE16 reveals an inverse relationship between lateral root and nodule numbers and a link to auxin in Medicago truncatula" (2009), "Regulatory Patterns of a Large Family of Defensin-Like Genes Expressed in Nodules of Medicago truncatula" (2013), and "Central Cell Derived Peptides Regulate Early Embryo Patterning in Flowering Plants" (2014). In 2009, she was elected Fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists.
