Justin B. Kozubal, Ph.D., served as an associate professor and program chair of sport business within Capital University's School of Management and Leadership, where he spent nine years, earned tenure and promotion, and developed, launched, and chaired the university's sport business program. His extensive professional career in the sport industry prior to academia included roles with Major League Baseball’s Arizona Fall League, the Texas Rangers, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Bulls, and Minor League Baseball organizations. He also held a leadership position at The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, overseeing a national sport sponsorship portfolio featuring partnerships with MLB, MLS, MiLB, the NCAA Final Four, College Football Playoff, Roush Fenway Racing, the Rose Bowl, and the Rose Parade. At Capital University, Kozubal contributed to aligning education with high-demand careers in sport business, emphasizing faculty expertise drawn from decades of industry experience to prepare students for success in this $600 billion industry.
Kozubal holds a Ph.D. in Sport Management (Sport Law) from the Sorrell College of Business at Troy University, with his dissertation 'CRYING FOUL: AN EXAMINATION OF ORGANIZATIONAL SAFETY CONSTRAINTS AS A BARRIER TO ATTENDANCE' completed under the committee chaired by Dr. Carroll and including Drs. Martin and Walton. He earned an M.S. in Sport Administration from Ohio University and a B.S. in Speech Communication from Ball State University. His research focuses on fan safety, risk management, and legal issues in professional and intercollegiate sport. Notable publications include 'San Jose State University Volleyball Controversy: Legal Examination of Transgender Athlete Participation' in Sport Litigation Alert (2025, with M. S.
