Justin Farquhar serves as a Research Services Librarian in the Research Services Unit at the University of Otago Library, located within the Information Services Building at 65 Albany Street, Dunedin. He possesses seventeen years of experience working in public and tertiary libraries, including the last eleven years as a Subject Librarian in the Division of Science. In this role, he supports researchers and students across a diverse range of life sciences and physical sciences subjects, assisting with literature searches, reference management, and access to scholarly resources. Farquhar has developed key interests in bibliometrics for analyzing publication and citation data, research data management processes and tools, Open Access publishing, and open science principles. He maintains his own ORCID iD (0000-0002-5818-5082), promoting the use of such identifiers among the research community to enhance visibility and track contributions.
Farquhar contributes to scholarly work through co-authorship, notably on the 2020 publication in JBI Evidence Synthesis: 'Experiences of activity limitations and participation restrictions in individuals with Developmental Coordination Disorder/Dyspraxia and their surrounding people: a qualitative systematic review' (DOI: 10.11124/JBIES-19-00462), collaborating with researchers from the School of Psychology while affiliated with the University Library. He actively engages the academic community by organizing and leading workshops, including sessions on research data management in the Science Library Seminar Room, contributions to Open Access Week events discussing the future of open scholarly publishing, participation in ResBaz Dunedin 2018 teaching data skills such as OpenRefine, and presentations like 'The Networked Researcher: Building your online profile' for Division of Sciences staff.
