His academic background includes a PhD in Hydraulic and Energy Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (2010) focused on the construction, planning, and management of underground water infrastructure in volcanic terrains in the western Canary Islands, and a PhD with international distinction in Applied and Environmental Geology from Universidad de León (2017) on water mining in volcanic islands with a hydrological analysis in southeast Tenerife. He also holds degrees as Forestry Engineer and Mining Technical Engineer from UPM, Civil Engineer specializing in Hydrology from Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Energy Resources Engineer from Universidad de Jaén, and a Master's in Water Engineering from Universidad de Sevilla.
In his career, he has held positions such as Secretary of the Department (2022-present), Coordinator of the Agroforestry Engineering area (2019-present), Leader of the INGENIA research group on Geological Engineering, Innovation, and Waters (2010-present), Dean of the Canary Islands College of Forestry Engineers (2010-2022), and several directorships within the Escuela Politécnica Superior de Ingeniería. His research specializes in water resources, hydrogeology, and geotechnical aspects in volcanic environments, with participation in 42 projects (coordinating 31) and authorship of 298 publications, including 89 journal articles, 87 book chapters, and 29 edited books. Key publications include "Climate projections of intensifying heat waves in the Canary Islands by 2100" (Regional Environmental Change, 2026), "Multicomponent solute geothermometry coupled with geochemical modeling of secondary processes in thermal waters from volcanic islands... Insights from La Palma (Canary Islands)" (Geothermics, 2026), "Climate Projections and Temperature Evolution in the Canary Islands" (International Journal of Climatology, 2025), and "Environmental Impact Assessment of Vineyard and Winery Using Life Cycle Analysis on Volcanic Island: Tenerife" (Sustainability, 2025). He has received awards such as the Agustín de Betancourt Prize for Civil Engineering Research (2018), ULL Excellence in Internationalization Award (2021), and ULL Social Council Best Practice in Internationalization Award (2022). With 20 years of consulting engineering experience managing over €2 million in projects, he has taught over 30 subjects, delivered 150+ seminars, and directed 100+ courses as Director of the Aula Cultural del Agua since 2013.
