Joseph Todd is a Professor in the Education faculty at Montana State University-Northern, serving within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education. As Chair of the college, he leads academic programming, faculty matters, and assessment efforts. His office is Cowan Hall 315H, with phone extension 3524. He actively engages in university governance through the Academic Senate, where he proposes and seconds motions on curriculum and policy issues. Professor Todd represents his college on the Assessment Committee and contributes to the Professional Education Unit (PEU), upholding standards in teacher preparation. He has assisted Dean Beth Durodoye in presenting program planning requests to the Montana University System Board of Regents.
Professor Todd supports key teacher licensure programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, which features proficiency-based education, immersive practicums, and final student teaching for K-8 classrooms; Social Science Broadfield (grades 5-12) BS for secondary social studies instruction; and Industrial Technology (8-12) BS for technical education teaching. He developed an Open Educational Resources project for EDU 225: Introduction to Educational Psychology at MSU Northern, creating an LMS-importable course pack with outline notes, interactive presentations, quizzes, exams, projects, and assessments aligned to open textbooks. His career progression includes promotion to Associate Professor with tenure around 2021 and to full Professor in 2025. Professor Todd also participated in the Conference on Indigenous Student Success with colleagues Josh Meyer and Valerie Guyant, contributing to efforts enhancing Native American student outcomes.
