Associate Professor Jonathon Hill serves as the Clinical Lead for the Discipline of Medicine at the University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health. He earned his MBBS from the University of Wollongong and holds additional qualifications including FRACP, Clin Dip Pall Med, B Med Rad Phys, and AFRACMA. Hill completed his initial medical training within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, followed by subspecialty training in medical oncology at St George, Sutherland, and Westmead hospitals. Currently, he is a Staff Specialist Medical Oncologist at Wollongong Hospital, Network Director of Physician Education for the Illawarra Medical Network, and a member of the General Medicine team there. He also practices privately at the Southern Cancer Institute and Southern Medical Day Care in Wollongong, participating in multidisciplinary teams for lung cancer, head and neck cancer, melanoma, and urological cancer.
His clinical expertise covers thoracic malignancies including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and thymoma; genitourinary malignancies such as kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, and testis cancers; melanoma; supportive care; and survivorship. Research interests encompass continuous quality improvement programs, education and training, supportive and symptom management for cancer patients, survivorship programs, and clinical trials. He contributes to clinical governance, safety, and quality initiatives within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and advocates for regional resourcing and local training programs. Key publications include 'Evidence for the evolving role of neoadjuvant and perioperative immunotherapy in resectable non-small cell lung cancer' (2024, Exploration of Targeted & Anti-Tumor Therapy), 'Receptor Discordance between Primary and Recurrent Breast Cancer' (2024, Oncology Advances), a phase I dose-escalation study of a 5-fluoropyrimidine prodrug published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (2024), and contributions to abstracts on bowel cancer screening and poster presentations in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology (2024).
