Jon Love, MD, serves as Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and as Division Chief of Pediatric Cardiology. His professional expertise lies in interventional cardiac catheterization, with a career emphasis on clinical cardiology practice. Upon joining the University of New Mexico, he contributed significantly to rebuilding the catheterization laboratory and revitalizing the cardiology program. He took on the role of overseeing cardiology resident education, establishing an foundational cardiology teaching curriculum tailored for the institution's newly launched residency training program. Professor Love participates in the adult congenital heart disease program at the University of New Mexico, where he provides lectures to adult cardiology fellows, enhancing interdisciplinary knowledge transfer.
In addition to his clinical and leadership duties, Jon Love demonstrates a strong dedication to medical education across multiple trainee levels. He delivers lectures to Phase I and Phase II medical students, ensuring early exposure to pediatric cardiology concepts. Annually, he conducts training sessions for neonatal intensive care unit nurses focused on post-catheterization management in neonates. He has developed a specialized curriculum for pediatric intensive care unit nurses addressing congenital heart disease management within the ICU setting and post-surgical care protocols. Furthermore, Professor Love created comprehensive learning modules and introduced creative, engaging training methodologies for the catheterization laboratory staff to improve procedural competencies and patient safety outcomes. During his fellowship training, he acted as a secondary investigator in the research for the Amplatzer atrial septal defect closure device. Since his appointment at the University of New Mexico, he has not pursued further research activities, prioritizing clinical service, program development, and educational initiatives.
