Dr. Jeremy McBain serves as Associate Professor of Music in the School of Performing Arts at the University of Texas at Tyler. In this role, he teaches applied trumpet, brass chamber music, brass methods, and arranging, and serves as the Coordinator of Instrumental Auditions. McBain earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois in 2012, with a doctoral thesis titled "The Role of the Cornet à Pistons in the Early Symphonic Works of Hector Berlioz," which was presented at the 2016 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Anaheim, California. He also holds a Master of Music from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Houston.
Prior to his current position, McBain taught at Eastern Illinois University, Millikin University in Illinois, and Saint Mary’s College in Indiana. As a professional performer, he has served as principal trumpet with the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra since fall 2016 and is a regular member of the Rose City Brass Quintet and Rose City Jazz Orchestra. His performance credits include collaborations with the Bach Society of Houston, East Texas Symphony, Longview Symphony Orchestra, Baroque Artists of Champaign in Illinois, Michigan Chamber Brass, and the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico. McBain has backed artists such as Doc Severinsen, Byron Stripling, John Clayton, The Contours, and the late Michael Brecker. He maintains an active freelance trumpet career in Northeast Texas.
